Sacramental Preparation

First Reconciliation

First Reconciliation marks an important milestone in the development of a child’s moral life, when they begin to understand sin and its effects on their relationship with other people and with God. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance), we recognize and celebrate the love and forgiveness of Jesus and the peace that He brings.

Preparation for first reconciliation occurs in the fall prior to the preparation for First Eucharist. The candidates and their parents attend three preparation sessions held during the month of November. The celebration of this sacrament takes place on Saturday afternoons during Advent.

Candidates interested in First Reconciliation are asked to notify the parish office either by:

  1. Phone -508-473-1900
  2. E-mail – parishoffice@shchopedale.org
  3. Completing a sacramental coupon (located at all entrances of the church and on this website.)

At Sacred Heart, we are committed to provide personal attention to all of our parishioners by providing an Eli Minister, who is trained to guide individuals and families through the sacramental process. The Eli minister will explain the process for preparing for First Reconciliation and assist you in registering for preparation classes.
